Important Notice: Canonical has announced that Ubuntu 20.04 will reach its End of Life (EOL) on May 31, 2025.

What does this mean?

After May 31, 2025, Canonical will no longer provide security updates and support for Ubuntu 20.04 without an Extended Security Maintenance (ESM) license.

For Crusoe customers currently using Ubuntu 20.04:

  • Image availability: You can continue using your Ubuntu 20.04 virtual machines (VMs) after May 31, 2025, at your own risk.
  • End of Support: Crusoe Cloud will not release new curated images based on Ubuntu 20.04.
  • Image Deprecation: Ubuntu 20.04 will remain available as a curated image option for launching VMs on Crusoe Cloud until November 3rd, 2025 but its use is not recommended without an ESM license from Canonical.

Crusoe Cloud Recommendations:

  1. ESM Support: If you require continued use of Ubuntu 20.04, you can purchase ESM support licenses from Canonical to continue receiving extended security updates.
  2. VM Migration: Alternatively, you can create a new VM based on Ubuntu 22.04 or 24.04 and migrate your workload to the new VM.

We understand that OS updates may require planning. We encourage you to review your current setup and consider the recommended actions. If you have any questions or require assistance, please reach out to our support team at support@crusoecloud.com.
