FAQ: Resolving "Already Registered" and "Email already invited or in use" Errors

Introduction

This article covers two related errors:

  • For users: You are trying to register or accept an invite and see a message that you are already registered with Crusoe Cloud.
  • For Admins: You are inviting a teammate and see Could not invite user. Conflict: email already invited or in use.

This usually happens because your email address is already tied to an existing Crusoe Cloud account under a different organization. Crusoe Cloud ties one email address to one user record, and one user record to one organization.

ℹ️ Note: The only way to join an organization that already exists is to be invited by one of its Admins. Signing up on your own at console.crusoecloud.com creates a new, separate organization, even if you enter your company's name.

Why the Error Happens

The email address already exists in Crusoe Cloud. There are two common causes, and they are fixed differently:

Cause What happened How to tell
The user signed up on their own Signup created a separate organization. The email is now tied to that one. The user can log in but sees an empty organization with no shared projects or resources.
An invite is already pending Another Admin already invited this address and it has not been accepted yet. Check the Team page for a pending invite to that address.

Frequently Asked Questions

I signed up with my company's name. Why can't I see my team's projects?

Organization names are not unique. Signing up created a new organization with that name, not a link to your company's existing one. Your account is now in an empty organization by itself.

To fix this, ask an Admin of your company's organization to invite you. If they see the error Conflict: email already invited or in use, follow the next question to have your self-created account deleted first.

I'm an Admin and get "Could not invite user. Conflict: email already invited or in use." What do I do?

The email you are inviting already has a Crusoe Cloud account, usually because the person signed up on their own before you invited them. Accounts cannot be moved between organizations, so the existing account must be deleted before the invite will go through.

  1. Confirm with the user that their self-created organization has nothing they need to keep.
  2. Contact Support with the user's email address and the name of the organization they should join.
  3. Once Support confirms the account is deleted, send the invite again from Manage organization > User Access > Team > Invite User.

If the user needs to keep their existing account, invite an alias instead (see "How can I be in two different organizations?").

If the address has a pending invite that was never accepted, resend it from the Team page. Invite links expire after 7 days.

How do I delete my account to resolve an "already registered" error?

Contact Crusoe Support and ask to have the account removed.

Please provide the following:

  • Email address you are registered under
  • Organization name
  • User ID (if available)

Support will delete the user for you so that you can re-register.

⚠️ Warning: Deleting the account also removes the organization it created and everything in it. Make sure nothing there needs to be kept before you ask for the deletion.

How can I be in two different organizations?

You can be registered in multiple organizations by using different email aliases. For example, if your email is user@myorg.com and you want to join a second organization, use an alias like user+org2@myorg.com and register that address with the second organization, either directly or via invite.

Crusoe Cloud treats user+org2@myorg.com as a separate user record, so it can belong to a different organization than user@myorg.com.

ℹ️ Note: The alias does not need its own mailbox. Plus-addressing is handled by your own mail provider, not by Crusoe — most providers, including Google Workspace and Microsoft 365, deliver mail sent to user+org2@myorg.com straight to the user@myorg.com inbox. Not every mail system supports it, though. If yours does not, the invite email will never arrive, so confirm with your mail administrator before using an alias.

Can I move my existing account to a different organization instead of creating a new one?

No, accounts cannot be migrated to a different organization. You would either need to create an alias or contact Support to have your current account deleted.

Can I request to join an organization from the console?

No. Only an Admin can add users, and only by sending an invite.

Who can send invites?

Users with the Admin role in the organization.

Guidance for New Users

If you are joining a company that already uses Crusoe Cloud, you can avoid this error entirely:

  1. Do not sign up on your own.
  2. Ask an Admin in your organization to invite you.
  3. Open the invite email and follow the link to create your account.
  4. If the link has expired (7 days), ask the Admin to resend it.
