FAQ: Resolving "Already Registered" and "Email already invited or in use" Errors

Introduction

This article covers two related errors:

  • For users: You are trying to register or accept an invite and see a message that you are already registered with Crusoe Cloud.
  • For Admins: You are inviting a teammate and see Could not invite user. Conflict: email already invited or in use.

This usually happens because your email address is already tied to an existing Crusoe Cloud account under a different organization, and Crusoe Cloud ties one email address to one user record by default.

The only way to join an organization that already exists is to be invited by one of its Admins. Signing up on your own at console.crusoecloud.com creates a new, separate organization, even if you enter your company's name.

Frequently Asked Questions

- I signed up with my company's name. Why can't I see my team's projects?

Organization names are not unique. Signing up created a new organization with that name, not a link to your company's existing one. Your account is now in an empty organization by itself.

To fix this, ask an Admin of your company's organization to invite you. If they see the error Conflict: email already invited or in use, follow the next question to have your self-created account deleted first.

- I'm an Admin and get "Could not invite user. Conflict: email already invited or in use." What do I do?

The email you are inviting already has a Crusoe Cloud account, usually because the person signed up on their own before you invited them. Accounts cannot be moved between organizations, so the existing account must be deleted before the invite will go through.

  1. Confirm with the user that their self-created organization has nothing they need to keep.
  2. Contact Support with the user's email address and the name of the organization they should join.
  3. Once Support confirms the account is deleted, send the invite again from Manage organization > User Access > Team > Invite User.

If the user needs to keep their existing account, invite an alias instead (see "How can I be in two different organizations?").

If the address has a pending invite that was never accepted, resend it from the Team page. Invite links expire after 7 days.

- How do I delete my account to resolve an 'already registered' error?

Contact Crusoe Support and ask to have the account removed.

Please provide the following:

  • Email address you are registered under
  • Organization name
  • User ID (if available)

Support will delete the user for you in order for you to re-register.

Note: Deleting the account also removes the organization it created and anything in it.

- How can I be in two different organizations?

You can be registered in multiple organizations by using different email aliases. For example, if your email is user@myorg.com and you want to join a second organization, use an alias like user+org2@myorg.com and register that address with the second organization, either directly or via invite.

💡 Tip: The alias doesn't need to be a real, separately-deliverable address. Crusoe automatically detects the alias and routes mail sent to user+org2@myorg.com back to user@myorg.com.

- Can I move my existing account to a different organization instead of creating a new one?

No, accounts cannot be migrated to a different organization. You would either need to create an alias or contact Support to have your current account deleted.
